Presenting an Evening with Don McKellar
BC Film + Media and The Praxis Centre for Screenwriters are proud to co-sponsor an upcoming evening with Don McKellar, one of Canada's most acclaimed writer, director and actors. Mr. McKellar will be in Vancouver to participate in an informal talk moderated by Katherine Monk, Vancouver Sun movie critic.
The evening will be an opportunity to hear Mr. McKellar speak about his experiences, and touch upon the state of the Canadian independent film industry. The talk will start at 7:30pm at the Royal Bank Cinema next to the Chan Centre on April 22, 2001. Admission is free, but you must book in advance through Praxis, either via email at praxis@sfu.ca or fax at 682-7909. Mr. McKellar is also in town as part of BC Film + Media's Features in Focus development program, where short-listed candidates have met with industry professionals for intensive story editing sessions.
Don McKellar's filmography is extensive, including writing credits on such critically acclaimed films as "The Red Violin" (2000 Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film), "32 Short Films About Glenn Gould" (8 Genies in 1993, including best screenplay) Recent acting credits include principal roles in "Waydowntown", "eXistenZ", and "Exotica". Mr. McKellar's feature directorial debut, "Last Night" (which he also wrote) was voted Best Canadian First Feature at the 1998 Toronto International Film Festival.
Praxis Centre for Screenwriters is a non-profit organization founded in 1986. It is devoted to the professional development of Canadian screenwriters and filmmakers.
BC Film + Media is a privately-administered, non-profit society established in 1987 by the provincial government with a mandate to expand and diversify the cultural industries of film and video in British Columbia.
