Our roots

A strong domestic industry is critical to the success of the film, television and digital media sector in British Columbia. From a fledgling local industry 20 years ago, BC owned companies have developed to the point that they are creating proprietary product that is being sold nationally and internationally.

British Columbia companies are also active in creating co-ventured content with producers in the United States and using Canada’s extensive co-production treaty system to partner with producers from around the world.

All forms of screen based content are created in BC with experienced producers creating script driven television, reality series and feature films. Increasingly BC producers are also developing convergent, interactive content for delivery on a wide variety of platforms.

Note: BC Film + Media administers the Film Incentive BC (FIBC) and Production Services Tax Credit (PSTC) on behalf of the Government of British Columbia. Since introduction in 1998, the tax credit programs have supported over $14 billion CAD in production spending in BC.

BC Film + Media has also been integral to the development and production of thousands of British Columbia films and television programs and has played a key role in the training and development of BC resident filmmakers. Since its inception, direct investments to the film, television and digital media industry have been in excess of $70 million. BC Film + Media remains committed to providing stable, focused and supportive programs that will allow the entrepreneurial skills of the industry to flourish.
