Vancouver, BC – BC Film + Media is very pleased to announce that Richard Brownsey, Executive Director of the British Columbia Arts Council and Director of the Provincial Cultural Services Branch, will be joining BC Film + Media in September as Executive Director. In his new position at BC Film + Media, Richard will continue to play an integral role in the support of the BC Film + Media and television community, serving as a valuable link between Government, BC Film + Media and the community – both locally and nationally.

“I have known Richard for many years and respect him as a leader in the development of the cultural industries in our province,” says Michael Francis, Chair of the Board of BC Film + Media. “His contribution to the film and television production industry through his involvement in the design of the current tax credit system has been responsible for much of the industry’s growth in recent years. The Board is delighted that Richard has accepted our offer to lead BC Film + Media through some interesting and challenging times. The opportunities arising from the convergence of media will require innovative responses from Canadian cultural agencies. The current review of Canadian broadcasting regulations presents both threats and opportunities for producers in British Columbia. We expect Richard to forcefully represent the interests of those affected.”

“I am looking forward to this challenge,” says Richard Brownsey. “BC Film + Media has played a critical role in developing the film and television community in British Columbia, and I am honoured to have the opportunity of contributing to its continued growth.”

Richard is an accomplished leader with over 25 years of experience in policy, planning and program development in media and the arts.
